Acid Reflux CuresToday there are no known cures for acid reflux, heartburn or GERD. However, there are ways to treat it and reduce the pain and suffering caused by it. Even if there was a cure for these symptoms, since most of the time the discomfort is directly related to the food you consume they would just come back if dietary changes are not made by the individuals inflicted with them. The most commonly used treatments are prescription medications, over-the-counter remedies and antacids. They do a wonderful job of eliminating the pain quickly and depending on the dosage of the drug the assistance can last for hours. However, they are not a cure and without accompanying lifestyle changes the users of these medicines can end up depending on them for the remainder of there lives. The patient that suffers with these conditions needs to gain the knowledge of what is causing them and to the best of there ability eliminate them from there life. Even though eating the wrong foods is the most prominent cause of acid reflux, heartburn and GERD, there are other contributing factors. Other Factors that Contribute to Acid Reflux 1) Consumption of alcohol 2) Smoking 3) Over-Eating 4) Eating at the wrong times of the day 5) Not maintaining the proper foods in your stomach consistently through out the day 6) Eating to close to bedtime 7) Lack of exercise 8) Living a stressful life The most successful way of ending the pain and suffering caused by these symptoms is to switch to an acid reflux diet. People often associate this type of meal plan with bland foods and nothing could be further from the truth. Most patients do not realize the vast majority of the foods they eat do not cause acid reflux. Once the ones that do are eliminated from there meals the patient usually feels better almost immediately. They often feel like they are cured, where in reality all they have done is stopped consuming the foods that caused there discomfort in the first place. |
